  A team of aviation investigators on Sunday arrived Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, for an on-the-spot assessment and determine the cause of the Diamond training aircraft operated by the Aviation Training School that crash-landed last Friday in Ilorin. The accident involved two occupants — pilot and instructor — who survived and are receiving medical care in one of the private hospitals in Ilorin. The state government has also expressed profound relief following the emergency landing of a training aircraft of the International Aviation College, Ilorin. A statement issued by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education in Kwara State, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, however  commended the swift and professional response of the college authorities and medical personnel, emphasizing the importance of emergency preparedness and strict adherence to safety protocols in aviation training institutions.   On May 15, at least 37 traders   died   in a boat accident in Gbajibo River in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. Most of the victims were travelling from a weekly market in Niger State when the accident occurred. The boat, said to have a capacity of 100 passengers, was overloaded and this eventually led to the accident. On Sunday, Salihu Mudassir, a survivor,  narrated  how he managed to stay alive when the incident happened. “I was on the boat that day. Before we boarded, it had already started raining. Some people suggested that we wait for the rain to stop, while others insisted that we should go ahead. Many were eager to return home. Eventually, we decided to board the boat despite the weather,” Mudassir recounted. “As we set off, the water started acting strangely — it became rough and unstable.   Court fixes date for former Kwara Governor’s N5.78bn fraud trial Kwara state High Court, Presided over by Justice Mahmud has fixed March 12 and 13 for continuation of trial of the former governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed and his former Commissioner for Finance, Demola Banu, over alleged diversion of N5.78 billion naira State Universal Basic Education Fund . Led in evidence by counsel to the EFCC, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), the prosecution witness, Mr Hassan, Assistant Director Finance, Universal Basic Education Commission(UBEC), Abuja, said “the duo are not signatories to the account of SUBEB and cannot be allegedly liable for the missing of the fund”.
